Half Day Cradle Mountain Canyoning Lost World Canyon
Float and walk through a beautiful section of river and see the world from the point of view of a platypus. The Lost World Canyon offers a truly unique way to experience Tasmanias Wilderness World Heritage Area. This tour is all about getting up close and personal with nature. Available to participants aged eight and up, it is not aimed at the adrenaline junkie, but some jump rocks up to three metres high and other challenges spice things up. Some of the highlights include seeing 1000-year old pencil pine trees and hearing the story of James Philosopher Smith the legendary first canyoner at Cradle Mountain.
Meet your group and guide at either 8.30am or 1.30pm. After getting kitted out, pile into the Canyon Mobile and drive approximately 15-minutes to Snake Hill. From here it is an easy 20-minute walk along boardwalk to the river, with stunning views of Cradle Mountain gained along the way.
After a thorough safety talk, enter the river and begin floating and walking your way down-stream. Spend approximately one hour in the water. For the adventurous there are jumps from rocks up to three metres into the water and other challenges to spice things up. In low water conditions, this might include taking a deep breath and swimming under a bolder. In higher water levels it will involve swimming down rapids and shoots. If you don't want to do the jumps, that's fine too.
The guides on the tour will tell you lots of interesting facts about the area you are in and tell you some stories about some of the interesting characters who have passed this way before.
Having left the river, get changed back into your dry clothes and walk out the same way we came in. This is probably the hardest part of the tour as it is up hill and your wetsuit is heavier on the way out, because it is wet!
