Kayak Camping Mission to Marramarra Orchard

Marramarra National Park is almost completely cut off from the rest of world. One of the only ways to get there is to paddle all the way up the river, so jump in a kayak and come with us on an unforgettable adventure. Past towering cliffs, untamed bush, ancient islands and waterside settlements, and into the prehistoric wilderness. Hear the story of the land, the indigenous heritage, and the history of the settlers, as we make our way deep into Country.

All food and equipment is provided. We make camp at the forgotten orchard, and settle in for an evening under the stars by the fire. Wake up to some hot coffee and a hearty breakfast, and try some simple riverside yoga if that’s your thing. Then head down the river to see some charming settlements, a shipwreck and secret waterfall, even have a cool dip in a bush pool.

This is an adventure for everyone, no experience required. Just bring an intrepid spirit!

Itinerary

Day 1: Upstream

Stop At: Bar Island Historic Site, Berowra Creek Hawkesbury River, Berowra Waters, Hornsby, New South Wales Australia
Find ancient middens, the ruins of the old church, and the cemetery with dozens of graves of early settlers
Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Marramarra National Park, Canoelands, North Sydney, New South Wales 2157 Australia
This used to be one of the food bowls of Sydney. Port Jackson (Sydney harbour) gave the early settlers little love, so they tried the more fertile banks around the Hawkesbury. An orchard still remains.

The mighty Hawkesbury has captivated peoples' imaginations since the dream time. On this tour we paddle our way beneath its towering sandstone cliffs on the way towards Marramarra

Stop At: Muogamarra Nature Reserve, Old Pacific Highway, Sydney, New South Wales Australia
This highly protected piece of bushland provides habitat for countless bird and plant species. We can take a short hike up the path, or a longer hike up the spur through the bush, to an incredible lookout over our paddling route up the river

Day 2: Downstream

Option to stop at this iconic restaurant for a well deserved lunch
