Private Huon Valley Gourmet Food Trip - From Hobart

Take a leisurely drive along the stunning coastline of the D’Entrecasteaux Channel and into the rich farming land of the Huon Valley to visit some outstanding boutique food and beverage producers.

First stop is a locals favourite, the Margate Train for breakfast followed by a visit to the volunteer-run Channel Museum.

You will then travel along the stunning channel waters to Woodbridge Smokehouse to try some of the locally grown and made smoked Atlantic Salmon. Then you will visit Grandvewe Cheesery who are multi-award winning makers of cheese, gin and international award-winning and unique 'Sheeps Whey Vodka'.

Next is lunch in Cygnet, a small and beautiful Huon Valley town famous for its January Cygnet Folk Festival. Lunch is followed by a visit to craft cider maker, Pagan Cider and then a honey tasting at the Honey Pot.

Your private guide and car will pick you up from your accommodation or Hobart cruise ship terminal and take you up the Southern Outlet to Margate at the beginning of the D’Entrecasteaux Channel.

You will first visit the local favourite, the Margate Train and its array of beautiful shops in railway carriages. You will enjoy breakfast at the Pancake Train Restaurant.

A little further south, you will see the Channel Museum, where you can learn about the regions many, varied and quirky stories. Run by volunteer locals, it features a large range of displays, library and gift shop.

You will continue your drive along this beautiful coastline with views of Bruny Island to the Woodbridge Smokehouse. Set on its own 25 acre organic apple orchard, they use their own fruit tree wood to create delicate and distinctive flavours in their traditionally smoked Tasmanian Ocean Trout and Atlantic Salmon.

Next is a visit to Grandvewe Cheese, maker of certified organic sheep cheese and internationally award-winning Sheep Whey Vodka and Gin. You will get an opportunity to meet the sheep and during summer the lambs.

Stop At: Cygnet, Cygnet, Tasmania

For lunch, you will visit the town of Cygnet, a small hamlet which lies between the beautiful D’Entrecasteaux Channel and the majestic Huon River. Considered the fruit growing centre of the Huon Valley and famous for its great cafes and locally handmade art, jewellery and annual Cygnet Folk Festival.

After lunch, you will visit the nearby Pagan Cider, a boutique Tasmanian cider producer making a unique range of elegant, sparkling, modern style ciders including apple, pear, cherry, strawberry, blueberry, raspberry and quince.

Stop At: The Honey Pot, 2273 Huon Highway, Huonville, Tasmania 7109 Australia

Last stop within the valley is The Honey Pot, makers of 100% pure Tasmanian honey, nothing added. They have 900 hives which are moved to follow the blossoming flower trail, travelling to Lake Pedder, Bruny Island, the Huon and Derwent Valleys, creating Leatherwood, Bush, Prickly Box and Manuka Honey besides others.
