Enjoy this interesting history tour of the Mayan people of Belize, from the country’s earliest inhabitants, all the way up to the modern-day Mayan people. As your guide leads you through the Mayan caves where the Mayan people used to dwell, you will learn more about the glyphs and carvings on the caves, and how the network of caves is connected to the ancient Mayan cities. Also learn about the three distinct Mayan people groups- the Mopan, Yucatec, and Kekchi, who each speak their own language. Your guide will introduce you to local Maya people who still speak these languages and you will get to learn some Mayan words. You will also learn more about the Mayan calendar, Mayan gods, and Mayan traditions and rituals. Learn about the sacred copal and other herbs used in Mayan healing and Mayan rituals and traditions that took place in the caves, which the Mayan people were entrances to Xibalba, or the underworld.
