Stop At: Peten, Tikal National Park Guatemala

Tikal National Park is the most excavated (Mayan?) archaeological site in Central America and one of the most excavated (archaeological) sites in the world. It covers some 57,600 hectares of wetlands and forests and encompasses architectural remains of the Mayan civilization dating from 600 BC to 900 AD. Tikal is the only natural and cultural UNESCO World Heritage site in Central America and one of few in the world with both designations. As such, Tikal is considered one of the top 20 tourist sites in the world and a must-see during your visit to Guatemala.

AT THE BORDER
If you rented a car and drove to the border between Belize and Guatemala, leave it at the parking lot (the only one there) so you don’t have to do 45 minutes of paperwork. It’s a safe spot where they have guards and security cameras. Sometimes they charge $2.50 USD to leave your car parked there.

As you go through Belize customs, they charge $20.00 USD to leave the country (but not to enter the country). Pay with cash.

Before you exit Belize customs, ensure that your passport is stamped.

As you leave customs, you will see us waiting for you with your name on a sign.

We will take you to Guatemalan customs stamp where your passport will be stamped again. There is not an entrance or exit fee at the border.
