With two totally different types of forest within, this is a paradise for biodiverse plant and animal life.

The Municipal Botanical Garden of Santa Cruz de la Sierra is a botanical garden of 217 hectares in the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, (Bolivia).
It is a member of the Botanical Gardens Association of Latin America and the Caribbean, (ALCJB) and presents papers for the International Agenda for Conservation in Botanical Gardens.

The plants of the native flora of the department are found in two sections, divided by the
Guapilo Stream of the Piraí river basin, whose waters run east.

Two types of forests very different from each other, the Chaco Forest and the subtropical
forest, and among them a transition area, thus we find:

• Subtropical forest, with vegetation of secondary native forest, very well preserved forests
that include a representative sample of the tree species of the region with tall trees and dense
canopy, the most representative species are Gallesia integrifolia, Anadenanthera macrocarpa,
Astronium fraxinifolium and Enterolobium contortisiliquum.
• Chaco forest, with meadows and smaller trees seasonally waterlogged. Its vegetation is
formed by thorny trees and characteristic cacti.
• Transitional forest, with a low and thin forest, an area that has intermediate vegetation
between the Chaco Forest and the Subtropical Forest, is the area of ​​greatest extension in the
botanical garden, there are some plants that adapt to seasonal drying in the forest soil and on
tree branches.

• Lagoon, in here we can admire aquatic plants, water birds, and migratory birds. There are
approximately 6 km. of interpretive trails.
