A few words about us ...

The Jerusalem Cultural Center (CCJ) promotes a cross-sectional reading of the history of the city of Jerusalem. Its social fabric, its symbolic life, conflicts, contradictions, challenges and social expectations. Its exhibits unite historical dimensions by means of long and short shows, nationally and internationally.

The CCJ has activities that involve collecting, registering, researching, preserving and returning cultural goods to the community - in the form of textual, bibliographical and iconographic exhibitions. With its own collection - already in the process of formation through acquisitions and donations corresponding to its agenda - CCJ also has loans for works from the Israeli embassy to carry out its program.

The CCJ, inaugurated in May 2008, functions as a proactive space to support education and cultural development in Rio de Janeiro. Built to discuss art, image culture, education and curatorial practices.

Visit: Jerusalem Cultural Center, Avenida Dom Helder Camara 3 970 Del Castilho, Rio de Janeiro, State of Rio de Janeiro 20771-003 Brazil

The Jerusalem Cultural Center came about through archaeological research results and based on accounts of Flávio Josefos, a Jewish historian, in his work "The History of the Hebrews." The creator of the project, Marcelo Crivella, planned to bring the model plant of the city of Jerusalem from the first century AD. C., which already existed in Jerusalem for Rio de Janeiro with the intention of propagating the culture of Israel in Brazil.

Then, white stones were brought from kibbutz from Galilee for the construction of the model, professionals from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (technicians and archaeologists), as well as Brazilian professionals, started the construction, which lasted five years to complete the innovative project in Brazil.

For three more years, the world's largest mock-up structure has been built to house this 736-square-foot relic with a lighting system that suggests the phases of the day and can see: dawn, daylight, dusk and dawn. In addition to multimedia totems that interact with the visitor bringing more historical information, referring to the monuments represented in the model, audio and image and the traveling exhibitions with dynamic and engaging themes.
