The first news of Caraça dates from 1708, when it appears on a map of Minas Province. In 1716, in a historical record, appears the Arraial do Inficionado do Caraça. Traces in the region of Tanque Grande and Pinheiros point to the existence of old mines, probably from the 18th century.
