Take this journey back in time and visit one of the most massive Thracian tombs situated in the village of Aleksandrovo. Built in the 4th century BC, it is of immense importance for archaeologists since it preserves unique and rare examples of frescoes depicting hunting scenes. Learn about the artistic techniques hidden in these beautiful images and go beyond their meaning and symbolism by hearing the stories of your leader who is an art historian herself.

On our back to Plovdiv, we stop by the beautiful Arapovo monastery a repository for the notorious wonder-working icon of the Virgin Mary. The history of the monastery is unique since it is the only sanctuary constructed during the Ottoman times with no traces of previous existence. Another exciting aspect of the monastery is the incredible wall-paintings which break away from the canon of the church and depict the lives of saints and preachers in a completely different way.

In the end, take your time and relax under the majestic atmosphere of one of the few truly Bulgarian wine cellars. The wine production coming from there forms the identity of the winery which focuses entirely on the Bulgarian grape called Mavrud. The Thracian valley is the only region in the country where Mavrud wine has flourished abundantly and its qualities developed to its best. Enjoy this food for the soul and the calmness of the afternoon setting sun.
