Half-Day Tour of Floating Village and Tonle Sap Lake by Boat

Discover the floating village  and Tonle Sap Lake on a traditional long tail boat, travel in comfort to the lake in an air conditioned minivan with your English-speaking local tour guide as you pass by lotus fields and rice paddies. Then, aboard a mini Tara boat, travel out towards  the Tonle Sap, seeing the floating villages and crocodile and fish farms on the way (crocodile and fish farm dependent on current water levels). Upon arrival at the famous Queen Tara, in the heart of the floating village, relax on the main deck, enjoy the included food and drinks and take in the stunning views. This unique tour experience is suitable for families, groups or single travelers.

The floating village is located less than 10 miles (15km) from Siem Reap. It is the perfect place to visit on Tonle Sap Lake for those that don't have the time to explore Prek Toal or Kompong Phluk.

This half-day tour of the floating village will begin at 8am or 10am (you can select which time you want to leave on booking) when you will be picked up from your hotel or guesthouse in an air-conditioned vehicle. Your friendly and knowledgeable tour guides speak English (and Khmer of course), and they will ensure that you enjoy your tour, pointing out areas of local interest along the way and answering any questions you may have. It takes about 20 minutes to reach the port near Phnom Krom, and upon arrival you will exit the vehicle and jump onto a smaller boat with life jackets and driven by experienced and safe local drivers.

On route to the main boat, you will pass the rice paddies and lotus fields, you will have an opportunity to stop and take some photos of the lotus flowers which are a deeply important flower in Buddhism (please note: Depending on the time of year the views of the lotus and rice fields will very).

The next stop will be the crocodile and fish farm (depending on current water levels) in the floating village where you will learn about some of the trades people on the lake work in. If catfish, crocodiles and large snakes don't interest you, there is a souvenir shop and a viewing deck on board for you to purchase some presents for loved ones or take a few photos.

The boat ride through the floating village will allow you to see ordinary Cambodians going about their daily life in the floating village. Fishermen, boat-makers, markets, schools, spirit houses and waving children are always in plentiful supply on this mesmerizing scenic route, and it is not uncommon for the scenery to provoke silence on the boat, as customers take in the sights and sounds that surround them. Once the trip through the floating village is complete, your boat will briefly enter the edge of the great lake before docking with the famous Queen Tara, in the heart of the floating village.

There, you will enjoy a well-deserved meal and 2 cold drinks. Afterwards, you can take a seat on the viewing deck and enjoy the magnificent scenery surrounding you. At about 11:15am (or 1:15pm for 10am start), you will leave the Queen Tara and head back to the port at Chong Khneas where your air-conditioned vehicle will be waiting to transport you directly home to your hotel or guesthouse.
