Stop At: Koh Ker Temple, 100 Km North of Siem Reap Cambodia

Head out of Siem Reap to a huge remote Temple Complex – Koh Ker one of the ancient capitals of the Angkor civilization. Dominated by Prasat Thom, which strikingly resembles a Mayan temple, the area is littered with ruins gripped in the embrace of twisting tree roots: you will likely have some of the sites to yourself. Return to town via jungle-clad Beng Mealea temple which, is built on a similar scale and floor plan to Angkor Wat. Utterly swallowed by jungle, and with minimal restoration work, it is easy to imagine what it must have been like for early explorers discovering these temples for the first time.
