Three-wheeled exploration of the Angkor temples

For centuries, the Angkor realm remained hidden from the naked eye. Spanning across close to 1000 square kilometres in the heart of Cambodia, construction of what is now seen as one of the ancient wonders of the world commenced at the beginning of the 9th century.

Under the ruling of various kings, the discovery of Angkor with its numerous temple ruins, palatial architecture, and impressive entrance gates have put the country on the tourism map. By local Tuk Tuk (three-wheeled motor cycle), guests will enjoy some of Angkor’s most recognisable sites and monuments, ending at the almost unmeasurable Angkor Wat.

Stop At: Angkor Thom, Angkor Wat, Siem Reap 17259 Cambodia

Your English-speaking guide for the day welcomes you warmly in the lobby of your hotel, joined by a local Tuk Tuk driver, from where you head out to the main entrance of the Angkor Archaeological site. For guests with an entrance pass inside Angkor, it is straight to the first stop; other guests not in possession of a valid entrance pass, your guide will assist in purchasing a pass before entering this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The morning commences at the former city walls, and its documented downtown region, of Angkor Thom. Built at the end of the twelfth century, Angkor Thom was the Khmer Empire's capital city and translates to 'large city'. It contains a large collection of sites such as the enchanting Bayon (with its 200+ smiling faces), Baphuon, Phimeanakas, the Terrace of Elephants and Jayavarman VII's palace although this no longer remains.

Stop At: Ta Prohm, National Road #6 Angkor Archaeological Park, Siem Reap 17252 Cambodia

After lunch at a local restaurant, Ta Prohm is on our itinerary. Considered one of the area’s most intriguing and famous temples, thanks to its appearance in the film Tomb Raider, Ta Prohm is a jungle temple that has been almost left untouched since it was discovered. It is the perfect lost in the jungle temple as strangler figs and kapok trees entwine themselves around its ruins and their roots burst apart even the thickest of walls.

Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

Stop At: Angkor Wat, Sangkat Nokor Thum, Siem Reap Cambodia

We end the day with Angkor Wat, arguably the largest religious building in the world, with a volume of stone equalling that of the Cheops pyramid in Egypt. The pride of the country featuring on its flag, Angkor Wat is Cambodia’s ancient temple city which is one of the wonders of the oriental world. This masterpiece of decorative details and architectural style is awe-inspiring with its five famous towers that rise into the sky.

Your dedicated Tuk Tuk driver will bring you back in the afternoon to your hotel where you say goodbye for his services and those of your guide.
