The famous Bow Falls are a must-see when visiting Banff. Park your car in the lot and walk along the trail to the top of the rushing waterfalls.

The surprise at the corner on Tunnel Mountain Road is the sudden appearance and incredible view of the Banff Springs Hotel. The beautiful building known as the “Castle Of The Rockies” sits in the backdrop of Sulphur Mountain while in the foreground the majestic Bow River cascades down into the Bow Falls. This famous and iconic view of the hotel is promoted all over the world. There are historic pictures, paintings and postcards that date back to the late 1800’s.

You have seen photos of the lake but they haven’t prepared you for how it feels to experience it yourself. Rounding the corner, the sight of the emerald green water and rugged peaks and glaciers hits you viscerally. You’ve never seen anything so dramatically beautiful. Late in the day, with the glowing sun dropping behind Mount Victoria, it is quiet and still. As you wander around the lakeside path it seems like the whole scene is for just you to enjoy. It is a feeling you will remember forever.

Its waters are the most amazing colour, a vivid shade of turquoise that changes in intensity through the summer as the glaciers melt. Set in the rugged Valley of the Ten Peaks, Moraine Lake is surrounded by mountains, waterfalls, and rock piles, creating a scene so stunning it almost seems unreal. Sit lakeside and absorb the sights and pure mountain air, or explore further by canoeing and hiking. It’s an iconically jaw-dropping place that is sure to leave a lasting impression.
Moraine Lake is seasonal open for travellers during early in June to September.
