Eagle Watch Adventure
Witness one of the greatest wildlife events on the west coast with a journey up the Sea-to-Sky Highway to Brackendale, where the largest congregation of bald eagles in North America gather each winter to feast on the returning salmon run. This tour includes a presentation by Eagle Watch Volunteers, time at Eagle Run Park to observe and photograph the bald eagles from the Eagle Viewing Shelter, informative commentary from your driver guide and scenic vistas of Howe Sound. You finish the tour with a stop at the Brackendale Art Gallery (the BAG) to view and purchase local artwork of the eagles, salmon and the west coast rainforest before driving back to Vancouver.
This adventure begins in Vancouver and takes you to experience the awe-inspiring beauty of west coast wildlife as literally hundreds of majestic bald eagles gather along the Squamish River in Brackendale and feast on migrating salmon. Youll journey through the world-famous Stanley Park, across the iconic Lions Gate Bridge and north along one of the most scenic drives in Canada, the Sea-to-Sky Highway, Enjoy the scenic vistas of Howe Sound and rock monolith nicknamed The Chief before arriving at Squamish in BCs Coastal Rainforest. Explore the Squamish Adventure Centre before the Eagle Watch Volunteers present the life history of bald eagles and their relationship with the salmon, the land, and the people. After learning about the importance of the eagles and their significance to the ecosystem you will depart the Squamish Adventure Centre for Brackendale, home to the largest winter gatherings of bald eagles in North America, hunting droves of salmon along the Squamish River. Brackendale Eagle Park, across the Squamish River from Eagle Run Park, is a haven for migrating bald eagles. Once at the Eagle Viewing Shelter, you can sip hot chocolate from the local cafe while walking along the riverfront, observing eagles in their natural habitat searching for salmon swimming upstream, or take a peek through your binoculars and set up your camera to capture the day's best shot with the Tantalus Mountain Range looming in the background. Eagle Watch Volunteers will be on hand with high powered telescopes for viewing and to answer any questions you may have while observing the eagles. When it is time to move on you will drive up the road to the Brackendale Art Gallery, where local and first nation artist works depict images of the eagles, salmon and the west coast rainforest. This little hidden gem also has an historical attachment to Brackendale Eagle Provincial Park. But not to be missed is the delicious soup, coffee and hot chocolate available to warm up with! Finally, you will make your way back to Canada Place in Vancouver.
