Introduction to Backcountry Skiing / Riding

Skiing and riding safely in complicated mountain terrain requires a lot of experience and proper mentorship. We are here to ensure you start off in the right direction.
Itinerary
Have you ever wanted to take that next step to skiing / riding in the backcountry and felt some apprehension? Your fear of the unknown mountain environment is a very healthy fear, but with some instruction and guidance from a professional, the unknown will start to make sense.
During this program, we will go to a backcountry area close to Banff and you will learn the basic skills necessary to be successful while backcountry skiing / riding. This is the perfect course to take in addition to an AST 1 (Avalanche Skills Training) course, which teaches how to identify and manage avalanche hazard in the backcountry.
The skills covered include:
- Using your backcountry skiing / riding gear
- Route finding
- Applied decision making in avalanche terrain
