Chilean Cooking Class on the Beach with Penguins Wine and a Sommelier

With the help of the chefs from the restaurant at Cachagua beach and a Sommelier, you will get a first hand experience on how to cook specific chilean dishes and taste like a professional sommelier wines that will compliment each dish. This experience takes place on the beach just a few minutes walking from Penguin Island where you will see the Humboldt and Magellanic penguins. You will walk along the boardwalk learning about the flora and fauna in the area and arrive at an old fisherman wharf with a spectacular view of the cove.

A two hour drive from Santiago you will arrive at Cachagua Beach where you will learn how to cook specific chilean dishes at the only restaurant on the beach, Los Coirones. From 10:30 - 1:00 p.m. you will learn first hand all the ingredients involved, preparations, cooking techniques along with tasting wines that will compliment each dish with a certified Sommelier. After the cooking class and wine tasting we will arrive at the scenic point to see the Humboldt and Magellanic penguins on the island that sits 100 meters off shore. We will provide binoculars as well so you wont miss a Penguin. After sightseeing the penguins, you will take a stroll along the coast on a beautiful boardwalk to an old fisherman wharf, Las Cujas (approximately a 30 minute walk). During your walk on the boardwalk, your guide will describe to you specific flora and fauna in the area.

• Piure with Sauvignon Blanc - Piure is a national delicacy in Chile and is chopped with pebre (Chilean salsa), cochayuyo (kelp), and fresh clam juice on top of a raw clam.
• Mixed Ceviche - Corvina (Chilean sea bass), octopus, shrimps with onions, lemon juice, garlic, salt and pepper.
• Curanto - A feast of meat (pork & chicken), seafood (clams, mussels, fish) and vegetables ( gold potato, onion, etc.) Curanto is a true Chilean tradition.
• Pastel de Jaiba - A traditional Chilean dish, Pastel de Jaiba is a crab casserole with cheese.
• Alfajores - Two biscuits that are stuck together with manjar and either coated with desiccated coconut or milk or white chocolate.
