Self Drive Experience at Chilean Lake District 5 days

This is a unique way to travel through this amazing region of Chilean Lake District.

This region has lower temperatures and recurring rainfall throughout the year.

REQUIREMENTS:

Meet the minimum age 25 years old

A valid driver’s license and passport for each driver. (An international permit is not necessary to drive in Chile)

A major credit card in the name of the renter (MasterCard, Visa, Diners Club or American Express)

Itinerary

Day 1: Puerto Montt Airport - Puerto Varas (Approx. 21 km)

Pass By: Costanera de Puerto Montt, Costanera Puerto Montt, Puerto Montt Chile
Pick up your rental car at Puerto Montt Airport rental office and get ready to explore the worders of the Lake District. Drive to Puerto Varas located on the shores of Llanquihue Lake with magnificent views of the distant volcanoes.

Day 2: Puerto Varas - Vicente Perez Rosales National Park (Approx. 120 km)

Stop At: Paseo Puerto Varas, Calle San Francisco, #666, Puerto Varas Chile
Today we recommend drive towards Vicente Perez Rosales National Park founded in 1926. Departing from your hotel, you will pass by typical wooden churches, Chilean farm houses and the town of Ensenada. You will drive through a thick forest of mostly native Coigües to reach Chile’s oldest National Park. First stop will be the waterfalls of Petrohué. We will hike a short trail through native forests: you will be amazed by the crystal green waterfalls. We will get back to the car and drive on heading to the slopes of the Osorno Volcano.

Day 3: Puerto Varas - Chiloe Island - Cauln - Castro (Approx. 180 km)

Pass By: Chiloe Island Penguin Colony, Punihuil, Isla Chiloe Chile
Today you will have a very interesting journey. Drive across via the ferry crossing to Chiloe Island. After the ferry, take a coastal road to Caulin, an agricultural and fishing community. The surroundings were declared Ecologic Bird Sanctuary.

Chiloé is a rugged and relatively untouched archipielago of the coast of Chile´s Lake District; explore this mythical island with its colorful wooden churches, 16 have been declared World Heritage Sites by Unesco.

You will stay in Castro, know by the colorfull “palafitos” (houses built on stilts), located among hills and an exuberant vegetation, this city invites you take a walk, try its seafood restaurants, visit its arts and crafts shops.

Day 5: Puerto Varas - Frutillar - Puerto Montt Airport (Approx. 90 km)

Pass By: Paseo Puerto Varas, Calle San Francisco, #666, Puerto Varas Chile
Leave your hotel in Puerto Varas and drive to Frutillar a charming village on the bank of the huge Llanquihue Lake. The village is noted for the German influence on the architecture developed by the immigrants who arrived around 1853. Here, you can walk to visit some restored colonial houses and see the strong German influence on the architecture.

Then, drive back to Puerto Montt Airport to drop off your rental car.
