Itinerary

Day 1: San Pedro de Atacama - The Moon Valley

Stop At: Atacama Desert, Antofagasta, Chile
You are picked up at your hotel first thing in the morning as we make our way to The Moon Valley, a natural wonder found in the Atacama Desert. Oddly intriguing formations resembling the Moon’s surface are what give this unique place on Earth its name.

Our tour begins in Los Flamencos (The Flamingoes), a National Reserve located approximately 12 kilometers (7 m) away from the town of San Pedro, where we will explore a salt cave and take in the breathtaking views the driest place on Earth has to offer. Scenic hikes around the National Park and a drive through the sand dunes will provide a chance for great photography.

During our time there, we will also go for a hike up Duna Mayor –a large sand dune found in the Valley- and visit the famous Amphitheatre, which is a rare natural formation, an old salt mine, an old abandoned mining town, and the Three Maries, natural sculptures carved by time and erosion wrought by extreme climate change in the region.

Following our visit to The Moon Valley you will be dropped off back at your hotel in San Pedro.

Day 2: San Pedro de Atacama - Altiplanic Lagoons

Stop At: Atacama Desert, Antofagasta, Chile
You are picked up at your hotel first thing in the morning as we make our way from San Pedro to the High Plateau Mountains, two hours south of the city, where Altiplanic Lagoons are found. As we drive through the desert we will see small towns along the way, such as Toconao –which means, “town made of volcanic rock” in Quechua- and Socaire.

On our way up the mountains we will take a winding road that will lead us to the Lagoons hidden at 4,000 m (13,123 ft) above sea level.

During our time there, we will also go for a hike up Duna Mayor –a large sand dune found in the Valley- and visit the famous Amphitheatre, which is a rare natural formation, an old salt mine, an old abandoned mining town, and the Three Maries, natural sculptures carved by time and erosion wrought by extreme changes in the region.

Day 3: San Pedro de Atacama - Tara Salt Flats

Stop At: Atacama Desert, Antofagasta, Chile
You are picked up at your hotel first thing in the morning as we make our way from San Pedro through a quiet road across the desert towards The Tara Salt Flats. The diverse wildlife and impressive volcanic formations that can be seen along the way provide a chance for great photography.

Once there, we will encounter an array of native animals including the endemic flamingos, and the Andean llamas. As we cross the Salt Flats we will also come across the Zapareli volcano, whose summit is the tripoint of the borders between Chile, Argentina and Bolivia.

Before heading back to San Pedro we will go for a hike through the National Park taking in the beauty of the landscape.

Following our visit to the The Tara Salt Flats you will be dropped off back at your hotel in San Pedro.

Day 4: San Pedro de Atacama - El Tatio Geysers

Stop At: Atacama Desert, Antofagasta, Chile
You are picked up at your hotel first thing in the morning as we make our way from San Pedro to El Tatio, a geyser field located in the Andes at 4,320 meters above sea level. On our way up we will take in the landscape filled with small lagoons and endemic wildlife including flamingos, llamas, alpacas, pumas, and condors. Beyond the tree line the scenery shifts as we take in the beauty of the volcanoes found not too far from the geysers, such as the active Putana volcano.

Upon arrival to the geothermal geyser field –the third largest geyser field in the world and the largest in the Southern Hemisphere- be prepared for low temperatures as we will be walking across the vastness of the field between volcanoes in search of geysers, which offer a spectacular chance for photography. This unique place located not too far from the border with Bolivia is most definitely a must.

Following our visit to the El Tatio you will be dropped off back at your hotel in San Pedro.
