Day 1:Beijing - Datong - Pingyao (L)

Meet a driver at your Beijing city hotels lobby at 4:30am for transfer to Beijing International Airport, where you’ll catch a short, domestic flight (1 hour) to Datong Beijiazao Airport. Your local tour guide will greet you upon arrival at the airport, then go over the day’s itinerary on your way to the first stop of the day - Yungang Grottoes.

Walk with your tour guide to explore the grottoes and niches, get to know its history and culture. With their 252 caves and 51,000 status, the Yungang Grottoes art represent the successful fusion of Buddhist religious symbolic art from south and central Asian with Chinese cultural traditions, starting in the 5th century CE under Imperial auspices. The power and endurance of Buddhist belief in China are vividly illustrated by the Yungang gottoes.

After a delicious lunch. Heading to Hanging Temple(Approximately 1.5 hours drive). 

The hanging temple is the only existed temple hosting worship for the Taoists, Confucians and Buddhists. Built in 491 A.D, Hanging Temple is an architectural wonder because it hangs on the west cliff of Jinxia Gorge more than 50 meters above the ground. It has established its unique position among the various temples and monastery with its characteristics of “peril, workmanship and miracle”. 

Say farewell to your guide in Datong, and your driver will take you to your hotel in Pingyao Old Town(Approximately 4.5 hours drive, please book your own hotel in Pingyao Old Town.

Day 2: Pingyao - Beijing (L)

Your tour guide will pick you up in your hotels lobby at 9:00am and start a walking tour of Pinayao Old City. Founded during the Western Zhou Dynasty (1046 – 771 BC) and rebuilt in 1370, the Pingyao old city is listed as the UNESCO site. Step into the city, the old past comes alive. The Ming Qing Street is flanked with shops of local handicraft. Rishengchang shows us the glory of the first Chinese exchange shops. The ancient government office tells everything about the bureaucracy of the feudal society. Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of old times lifestyle and appreciate the charms of old China. Feel free to discuss with your tour guide on where you want to go in the old city.

After lunch, you will be transferred to Pingyao Railway station in the late afternoon. Relax on the 4-hour journey bullet train ride back Beijing. Once arrive Beijing, you driver will pick you up from Beijing West Railway Station and  transfer you back to your hotel in Beijing City.

Note: You will take the train on your own, please book your own accommodation in Datong and Pingyao.
