Hidden Taste of Chengdu -- A Walking Tour and Night Boat Trip in Chengdu

This is a 5 hour city orientation tour which will take you to the off-the-beaten-track living quarter in downtown Chengdu to uncover the real laid-back life of Chengdu locals by tasting all kinds of local snacks, watching the locals playing Mahjong, exploring a food market, stopping for a mug of graft beer at a beer bar and take a boat trip to enjoy the night view of Chengdu.

Our tour starts at 17:00 pm where the guide meets you up at Exit B of Nijiaqiao Metro Station(倪家桥地铁口B）, and then we will walk to Yulin Living Area. It is a “village” in downtown Chengdu but has been regarded as the earliest fashionable living quarter of the city. All the houses there are kept original without being developed into high-rises. Small alleys and old courtyards are scattered in the area while it’s surrounded by tall buildings outside, hence tourists call it "city village". We will walk into one of the alleys where you will see restaurants on both sides, street vendors selling snacks, vegetables and fruit on the way.

From around 17:30 pm, we will walk into some courtyards and see the locals playing Mahjong or sipping tea. No matter which alley we walk into, you will find the walls full of paintings of traditional patterns or about various stories or tales. As for supper, you can pick from various local snacks like Dandan noodles, Guokui, Chinese homemade pancakes, or Spicy Chuanchuan or Sichuan cuisine if you’d like to challenge yourself.

At about 18:30 pm, we will explore a local food market inside which you will find yourself surrounded by colorful fresh ingredients like red chillies, green Sichuan peppers, snow-white hand-made noodles, etc.. You can buy whatever you want just like the locals who go there to prepare ingredients for their family dinners everyday.

After our visit to the local market, we will take a break at a beer bar on a street corner nearby at around 19:00 pm. The best thing to start the nightlife is to drink a mug of local craft beer while chatting with the locals since that is the favourite beer bar in the neighborhood.

Then there will be our final destination - we will take a taxi to the pier where we will take a boat trip to enjoy the night view of Chengdu, the boat trip last about 40 minutes and there will be a light show on both sides of the river. After our boat trip, we will walk up to a pavilion to see the fabulous night view of the river again before our guide will help you to stop a taxi that takes you back to your hotel and the trip ends.
