Mutianyu (Chinese: 慕田峪; pinyin: Mùtiányù) is a section of the Great Wall of China located in Huairou County 70 km northeast of central Beijing. The Mutianyu section of the Great Wall is connected with Jiankou in the west and Lianhuachi in the east. As one of the best-preserved parts of the Great Wall, the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall used to serve as the northern barrier defending the capital and the imperial tombs.

History

First built in the mid-6th century during the Northern Qi, the Mutianyu section is older than the Badaling section of the Great Wall. During the Ming dynasty, under the supervision of General Xu Da, construction of the present wall began, building over the previous wall. In 1404, a pass was built in the wall. In 1569, the Mutianyu Great Wall was rebuilt and till today most parts of it are well preserved. The Mutianyu Great Wall has the largest construction scale and best quality among all sections of Great Wall.

For most tourists if they never been to visit Beijing before, most of them don't know that section of the Great Wall is the best one .

Beijing city have more than 6- 7 sections opening for tourist to visit . For most Chinese people they choose to visit Badaling . Why ? Because it is very close the city center and easy to get up of the mountains .

But today , I would like to high recommend you to visit Mutianyu Great Wall section . Why ? Because this section is more like a challenge.

The Mutianyu section of the Great Wall is built on a mountain higher than 780 meters above sea level. Here the vegetation is abundant, the jungle is dense and the mountains are covered with flowers.

The Great Wall here is also more distinctive , in the short two kilometers of the Great Wall, there are more than twenty different ground buildings and beacon towers. What's more amazing is that there is a gate, three connected together.

Firstly , our tour guide will meet you at your hotel lobby at te time ( 8:00 a.m. in the morning)

Driving time need one or two hours to get the Great Wall depends on the traffic . You will learn some history about China .

We need 10 minutes for ticket and restroom .

After we will take shuttle bus to get the mountain foot . Then you can choose to use Chair-liift up and toboggan down ( Option extra charge 120 RMB per ticket round trip)

Iking and explore on the Great Wall about three hours and back to the city .
