Private 2-Day Dujiangyan Tour

This private 2-day tour takes you out of the city of Chegdu and into some of Sichuan's best attractions. Explore the ancient engineering marvel of Dujiangyan Dam, as well as the origins of Taoism and Tai chi, while soaking up the beauty of Qingchengshan. Marvel at sites including Erwang Temple and Tianshidong. On the second day, visit Dujiangyan's panda research base to see pandas and learn about the efforts being made to protect this magnificent animal.

Itinerary

Day 1: Dujiangyan Dam and Qingchengshan Mountain

Stop At: Dujiangyan Irrigation System, On the Minjiang River at the west of Dujiangyan, Dujiangyan 611830 China
Get picked up from your hotel in Chengdu at 8am and arrive at Dujiagnyan Dam in about two hours. Built in 256 B.C., Dujiagnyan Dam is the oldest functioning irrigation system in China. In addition to this ancient engineering marvel, you also visit Annlan Suspension Bridge, one of the five ancient bridges in China, and Erwang Temple (also known as Two Kings Temple), which honors Li Bing and his legendary son.

Stop At: Mount Qingcheng, Qingcheng Mountain Town, Chengdu 611844 China
After lunch, hike on Qingchengshan to visit the origin of Taoism and see the 2,000-year-old ginkgo tree planted by Zhang Daoling, founder of the Way of the Celestial Masters sect of Taoism. You also have the opportunity to take the gondola up to Shangqing Palace and walk down from the mountain by way of Tianshidong (also known as the 'cave of heavenly master'). This takes about two to three hours.
Overnight accommodations are provided at a hotel located at the foot of Qingchengshan.

Day 2: Dujiangyan Panda Base - Chengdu city

Stop At: Dujiangyan Panda Base of the Giant Panda Research Center, Shiqiao Village, Qingchengshan Town Dujiangyan city, Chengdu 611830 China
In the early morning before breakfast is served, see many local people practicing Tai chi at plazas around the hotel. You are encouraged to learn from them.
After breakfast, head to Dujiangyan Giant Panda Research Base near Qingchengshan. Upon arrival, tour around this expansive panda base and learn about the conservation work being done. A short lecture on pandas follows before your volunteer work begins. Dressed in protective gloves and overalls — to protect the pandas' health — learn to prepare panda food and, under close supervision, try feeding the animals.
Lunch is served at the base, after which you will watch a film about panda science before the volunteer work concludes at around 3:30pm.
Your trip concludes with a drop-off back at your hotel at around 5pm.
