The reddish shade of color in the algae and rocks makes it a unique and beautiful scene, as well as a wonderful place to take some amazing photos. The section of the “red river” which includes the swimming holes is over ½ a mile long (1 km) and you’ll have time to explore every part of it in today’s adventure.

Your tour will begin with an early morning pickup from your accommodation in Bucaramanga at 5am. But don’t worry you’ll have plenty of time to catch-up on some sleep in our comfortable vehicle, as depending on traffic you’ll be arriving 4-5 hours later. Of course it you do decide to take a nap or two our guide will wake you in time to see anything spectacular along the way.

Once you arrive in Guadalupe you’ll start the next part of your adventure with a 20-minutes walk through the meadows until you get to the top part of Las Gachas. This spot is unknown by many tourists, so there is a very high likelihood that you and your guide are the only individuals here. Traveling down the red river you will discover other similar holes along with some very slippery holes, which is the ideal location for you to have some fun and enjoy the all-natural slides.

After you’ve slipped and slid your way down the river trying out every hole along the way, you’ll come to the end of Las Gachas; a 50-foot (15 m) high waterfall concealed behind some thick forest. You’ll also discover a little finca (farm) with a wonderful friendly Colombian couple that grow and sell a grand variety of fruits direct from their farm.
