The Lagoon of Guatativa is one of the most magical and sacred places for the Muisca culture, is the site of the famous legend of "El Dorado", wich attracted the Spanish in the sixteen century. The legend tells that the Cacique (chief), should go into the lagoon during the ceremonies in order to fertilize the earth. He had to go covered with gold powder and the rest of the people would throw gold objects into the lagoon to guarantee the prosperity for the comunity. This and many other amusing facts makes of the lagoon an amazing place to go.
