Venado Caves

Exploring them is an exciting adventure for those who do not suffer from claustrophobia and do not mind getting wet or filled with mud. Activities such as climbing walls or "crawling" through holes are carried out inside the caverns. On the tour you can find bats, spiders and marine fossils.

Itinerary

Deer Caverns were formed 15 or 20 million years ago, during the Miocena period. These were below sea level and thanks to movements of tectonic plates they came out to be part of the surface.

The caverns were discovered by the aboriginal Guatusos and are formed by limestone, stalactites, stalagmites and corals. The entrance to the caverns was discovered in 1962. The cavern consists of 12 rooms of various sizes, some of them are quite narrow and low, so sometimes underground rivers must be crossed.
