Detailed Itinerary:
Your tour will commence with a scenic drive to Trogir, a town which arose from ancient Tragurion - itself founded by Greek colonists from the island of Vis in the 3rd Century BC - and which was assigned UNESCO World Heritage Site status in 1997.
The first stop on this tour will be the Trogir's Romanesque and Gothic Cathedral of St Lawrence. The building of the cathedral began in 1213 and was finished during the 17th Century. Marvel at the west portal, the masterpiece of a local master named Radovan. The portal depicts religious motifs: scenes from the Gospels, saints, apostles and even exotic animals. Ashamed Adam and Eve stand atop two protruding lions.
In the town's main square you'll find the 15th-Century City Loggia, which has a collection of carved stones from across the ages set in panels on the walls. You'll also see the Town Hall and Cipko Palace, which has a carved Venetian Gothic window and a carved wooden statue of a cockerel taken from the prow of a Turkish ship following a decisive 15th-Century battle.
Another building of interest is the Benedictine Monastery of St Nicholas. Built in 1066, the building has a beautiful Baroque interior and boasts a number of precious artworks, including the Kairos, an exquisite relief depicting figures and scenes from Greek mythology.
After your sightseeing tour of Trogir, you'll travel to Split, a city with a 1700-year history. From here, you'll be guided on a walking tour of the famous Diocletian Palace, an ancient palace built by the Roman Emperor Diocletian at the turn of the 4th Century AD.
