One of the most significant landmarks in this city, the Brandenburg Gate is a neoclassical monument that has stood through the city's history since the 18th century. The gate is a symbol of separation between East and West Berlin.

Located in the middle of the Spree River is Museum Island, a complex that was awarded UNESCO World Heritage status. Five different museums can be found here.
