Day 2: Step pyramid of Sakkara Citadel Mohammed Ali Mosque

Stop At: Step Pyramid of Djoser, Saqqara Egypt
Besides the pyramid complex of Gīza, this cemetery is one of the most important sites within the Memphite necropolis. It is located about 35 kilometres from the city centre of Cairo.
The outstanding monument is the stair pyramid of Djoser. It is the model for all later pyramid buildings. Starting from the Mastaba grave, the typical shape of the stepped pyramid is created by multiple superimpositions. However, the complex contains further structures, it is surrounded by a massive enclosure wall: Storage rooms in the west, an altar in the north, a mortuary temple on the north side of the pyramid, palace areas in the east of the pyramid, the large courtyard including the eastern Sedfest courtyard and the southern grave.
