The monastery is located in the northeastern part of the village of Sawamah east, about 12 km north of Akhmim. The monastery is located on the eastern road between Akhmim and Nagi Hammadi, about 15 km south of Akhmim .
It was formerly called the Monastery of Iron of Saints or Logius and Arsanyos and then named after the famous Roman martyr George. The church is located inside a high wall on a high hill where there is only the archaeological church and buildings for some Coptic families. The church is modeled after the churches of Akhmim from the 16th and 17th centuries. The monastery was called iron in relation to .. Located 4 km east of the village of Hawawish, which is 12 km southeast of Akhmim .. The monastery is surrounded by a square wall .The monastery church is the main building of the monastery and dates back to the 16th and 17th centuries . The Holy Synod recognized monasticism in this monastery
After its reconstruction, the monastery contained a rare collection of saints’ bodies inside the old church
