It is a Coptic Orthodox monastery known as the Monastery of “Marmina the Wonder”, located in Mariout, south of Alexandria, about 50 km. It is one of the oldest and most beautiful monasteries in the world, dating back to the fourth century AD. Perhaps the reason behind the fame of St. Mina, which did not receive any Egyptian martyr either in the country or abroad, because of the many wonders performed by the Lord prayers to this day so it is called martyr Marmina wonder .
The monastery contains many churches and shrines that include the remains of some saints. The first church, named after the martyr, was built in Mariout in 320 AD. The construction continued until 325 AD during the reign of King Constantine the Great. With the spread of the spirit of faith in Egypt, the new churches were rebuilt when Pope Athanasius the Apostolic, who renovated the first church, took over to accommodate all arrivals and those seeking faith.
The monastery continued until Pope Kyrillos VI took over the papacy and renovated the buildings and churches of the monastery and laid the foundation stone of the Cathedral of St. Mina in Mariout in 1961. In addition, he returned parts of the miraculous remains of the body of martyr Marmina to the monastery in 1962.
When St. Pope Kyrillos departed, he was buried in a shrine in the middle of the monastery as recommended by him, and has since become the most prominent area that tells the events and historical figures. In 1979, the UNESCO approved the monastery of the martyr Mina in Mariout within 57 world heritage area .
