A family story

In 1962, a 10-year-old boy, Louis-Marie CHARDON came to play in a great exploration field.

His father André CHARDON had just acquired this property to enlarge the family tree farm. Only the land on the hillside was planted with apple trees, and the area in the valley was abandoned in a jumble of brambles. Thus, little by little, Louis-Marie discovered troglodyte dwellings and the idea of putting all this back into value was born.

In 1982, Louis-Marie inherited the place and immediately went to work in his spare time, in addition to his job as an arborist and discovered the 53rd and last underground refuge-Touraine known to date.

15 years later, the site comes back to life ...

The Troglodyte Valley of Goupillières was born and Louis-Marie CHARDON opened it to the public in 2000

The Troglodyte Valley of Goupillières offers you a guided tour or free visit, the discovery of 3 farms dug in the tufa with their wells, their bread ovens, their stables, grain silo. In order to protect themselves from the brigands and ravages of war, the payans have dug an ingenious underground-refuge whose tricks will astonish you !! The visit ended, enjoy the exceptional setting of the site to discover during a walk, a box of vines of the last century, facilities for children (cabin, castle, fort, house of the witch) where everyone can let his imagination wander .
