Come with me on a private discovery tour of the Cote de Beaune in Burgundy, Meursault, Chassagne Montrachet, Pommard, names you have only dreamt of seeing before now. Traveling in my air-conditioned minivan, I will will reveal the mysteries of the terroir and introduce you to my friends who make wine. A private guided tour of the 15th century Hotel Dieu will set the scene for a day of exploration leading to understanding of what makes Burgundy wine so great. All my wine tastings are to independent wineries, by appointment only guaranteeing you access to the best of Bourgogne.

Stop At: Musee de l'Hotel-Dieu, Rue de l'Hotel Dieu, 21200, Beaune France

After pick up from your accommodation in Beaune, we start the day with a private guided visit of the acclaimed 15th century Hospices de Beaune, a luxurious charity hospital, still maintained today with the proceeds from its famous wine auction. Having delved into the mysteries of the magnificent polyptych painting of the Last Judgement by van der Weyden, we then drive into the Cote de Beaune for a tour of a family run winery followed by a commentated tasting of wine from their vineyards. There we will learn to understand the patience of the Burgundian vigneron as he or she aides Mother Nature in her job of turning grapes into wine.

The lunch option for today is in Volnay, delight a regional speciality ‘Coq au Vin’ accompanied by it’s famed ‘pommes fondants’ – melting potatoes! Tarte Tatin is on the menu for dessert or you may prefer the local tipple, Soufflé Glacé au Marc de Bourgogne!

Allowing our lunch to settle we will drive out to Puligny Montrachet where we will study the mysteries of terroir in relation to the famous white wine vineyards of Montrachet. Depending on time we will maybe view the fabulous 15th century Chateau de Rochepot, sitting on its rocky outcrop overlooking the Haute Cotes de Beaune. Returning to the cellars we will disappear back underground for another wine tasting and emerge back into the daylight as ambassadors of the spirit of Bourgogne.
