A major heritage site, a remnant of the Ancien Régime but whose building, annexes and gardens have followed, according to their successive assignments, an evolution and transformations that closely follow the course of political, social and cultural history, the museum has always been open to the creation of its time.

The Rodin Museum was created in 1916, at the initiative of Rodin, thanks to the three successive donations that the artist made to the State of his works, his collections, his library, his letters and manuscripts. It is established on the site chosen by the sculptor: Hotel Biron and its garden, a mansion built in the early eighteenth century, that Rodin occupied, as a tenant, since 1908. The latter also donated his residence to Meudon , Villa des Brillants, which is today an annex of the museum. The international reputation of the artist, author of universally known sculptures, such as The Thinker, become an icon of Western art, or The Kiss contributes to the notoriety of places.
