During this tour you will feel yourself in the medieval age between ancient towers and villages with breathtaking landscapes. Khevsureti is a remote mountainous district in northern Georgia, located between Kazbegi and Tusheti regions. This site, located amongst majestic highlands, has inspired many travelers, writers and painters alike. The road to Khevsureti will lead you through alpine landscapes, following the wildly flowing Pshav Aragvi River. Upper Khevsureti lies on the northern slopes of Caucasian mountains. Its center is the medieval fortress of Shatili, and Khevsurs are the people indigenous to the region.

Pass By: Jinvali Water Reservoir, 40 km to the North from Tbilisi, Tbilisi Georgia

Zhinvali, also Jinvali, is an artificial water reservoir located on the river Aragvi in Georgia. The building of the hydroelectric dam formed the Zhinvali Reservoir. The dam has been built in 1986. While passing by you can enjoy breathtaking views on Jinvali reservoir from the road.

Pass By: Datvisjvari Pass, Zhinvali-Barisakho-Shatili, Georgia

Datvisjvari Pass is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 2.689m (8,822ft) above the sea level, located in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region of eastern Georgia. The road was built in 1970's. The serpentine road to the summit, also known as Datvi-Jvari Pass, Datvis-Jvarisghele or Datvis jvari (engl. "bear's cross"). The drive is definitely worth it. A drive not to be missed! There are many excellent photo opportunities. Don't forget your camera with lots of film/memory, fully charged batteries and an empty memory card! At the summit there are beautiful views. There are plenty of ancient villages and fortresses along the way. After Shatili it continues to Mutso and ever more remote villages in the Andaki valley.

Pass By: Lebaiskari Tower, Georgia

Pass by vllage Pkhovi and enjoy a medieval Pkhovian landscape with the Lebaiskari tower. Lebaiskari Tower – is a medieval type tower and guards the Shatili road. It has five floors. The first floor was used to be as a shelter for kettles, while middle floors for the living purposes. The last floor was the purpose of fighting and giving fire signals.

Stop At: Shatili Medieval Fortress Village, Shatili Georgia

Arrive in medieval village Shatili. a UNESCO heritage site, is a medieval highland fortress village, situated 1400 meters above sea level. There is no road access to Shatili in the wintertime, further protecting the traditional ways of the dozen or so permanent inhabitants. Shatili is one of the most popular destinations for tourists seeking out a genuine experience. The medieval stone and mortar complex consists of 60 towers. It served both as a place of residence and fortress protecting Georgia’s northeastern borders. Immerse yourself in this inspiring atmosphere by spending the night at one of the fortresses. Have a nice rest here before the next sight, Mutso.

Difficult to access and mostly abandoned during the past century, the fortress village has preserved its original architecture and open-air burial vaults. As the legendary home of the hidden century-old Broliskalo Icon of the Archangel, Mutso attracts adventure and soul-seekers alike. According to legends, the Icon is still hidden high in the mountains. It waits, as the chosen one must come in order for the Icon to reveal its whereabouts.
