Mtskheta approximately 20 kilometers north of Tbilisi was founded in 5 century BC and it was capital of the early Georgian kingdom of Iberia ( 3rd century BC-5th century AD). Mtskheta was known as Holy City by the Georgian Orthodox Church from 2014 and it was the first place for Christian activity in Georgia in the 4th century.

Gori – One of the oldest cities. Archaeological samples, dated back to the 3rd millennium BC and first millennium BC, are found here. There is a Gori Fortress in the city center, which is built in the first millennium BC and restored in the 17th century. Also, one can find the I. B. Stalin museum, preserving his personal belongings and manuscripts, in the city center.

Uplistsikhe is a cave town 10 km. away from the city, dating back to the first millennium BC. Here you can find streets, houses, tunnels, squares, and towers exposed in the stone.
