Rothenburg ob der Tauber - the pearl of the Middle Ages

Far before Rothenburg we see the walls and towers of the city grow harmoniously out of the landscape.

The silhouette could be a background of a Dürer image. Half-timbered houses, tapering like irons, many cobbled streets that lead through the 6 gate towers. From the middle of the 17th century, Rothenburg lost its original economic importance and since hardly any new buildings were built, Rothenburg fell into a slumber that lasted more than 300 years. Thus, the medieval cityscape has been preserved. Rothenburg is a magnet and annually draws over 2 million tourists from all over the world back to medieval times.
