French Berlin - In the footsteps of the Huguenots

"Muckefuck" - that stands for a very thin coffee, as every Berliner knows. Far less well-known is that these strange language mixtures stem from the Protestant Huguenots who fled to Berlin. As "mocca faux" the French called a vegetable broth stretched with vegetable extracts. The tour around the Gendarmenmarkt deals with the history of the Huguenots in Berlin. Last but not least, it was Frederick II who, with his love for French culture, combined both peoples and created buildings such as the Comedy House, the National Theater, the Schauspielhaus and the Konzerthaus.
