National Building Culture of the GDR - The Stalinallee
As a candidate for the World Heritage List, one of Germany's most monumental streets today is one of the most exciting urban planning solutions. The peculiarity of their 50s and 60s architecture is directly related to the political will to express the young GDR state and its economic potential. Designers of such a claim were especially the German architects of the time, who had their architectural foundations in the school of design Bauhaus or generally based on the convictions of the New Building of the 20s. We are following this conflict on a walk in the still very liveable residential area.
