All in all, 25 unique timepieces can be admired along the two kilometres of the sundials trail – and not just these. The tour leads us into the Medieval town centre, through streets with beautiful half-timbered houses, and past Brattenstein Castle, which provides a romantic backdrop for Röttingen’s annual Franconian festival. And outside the city walls, with their seven remaining well-preserved fortified towers, something quite different attracts us: a unique landscape of vineyards, gentle hills, orchards and stone structures. The Residenz is the prince bishop' palace, built from 1720-1744. It is the major work of South German Baroque built according to plans by Balthasar Neumann. UNESCO Word heritage site since 1981.
