Visit the Akosombo dam and the Shai Game Reserve

Being picked up from your hotel at 7:30am, you will take this 100kms journey north of Accra first to the township of Akosombo. Here you will be taken on a guided tour of the Akosombo dam which is the largest man-made lake in the world. It was constructed in 1966. The dam rises 440 feet (134 m) above ground level and has a crest 2,201 feet (671 m) wide and a volume of 10,451,000 cubic yards (7,991,000 cubic m). The dam is used for commercial fishing and navigation. The dam has an electric-power-generating capacity of 912 megawatts. The Dam meets Ghana’s needs and provides a surplus for sale to neighbouring countries. 

Returning to Accra you will stop at the Shai Game Reserve just 40mins north of Accra. Take a drive through this park to discover baboons, monkeys, antelopes, bats and ostriches. This tour is done in a private vehicle with an English speaking tour guide with you throughout the trip. Back in Accra you will be dropped off at your hotel to end the day by late afternoon.
