The greatest and finest sanctuary of ancient Athens, dedicated primarily to its patron, the goddess Athena, dominates the centre of the modern city from the rocky crag known as the Acropolis. It was Perikles in the fifth century B.C., also known as Periκles Golden Age, who coordinated the construction of the sites most important architectural masterpieces. The Parthenon, the Propylaea, the Erechtheion and the temple of Athena Nike, were erected during this period under the supervision of the greatest architects, sculptors and artists of their time.The Acropolis, also called the Sacred Rock of Athens, is the most important site of the city and constitutes one of the most recognizable monuments of the world.

The Temple of Olympian Zeus found in the southeast of Athens is also referred to as Olympieion. Its construction lasted several centuries, from 510 BC to 131 AD and it is one of the greatest ancient temples of Zeus as well as one of the most famous marble buildings ever erected in the ancient world. There were originally 104 gigantic Corinthian columns 16 of which remain standing today, with one of them lying on the ground.

The name of it was diolkos. For those who had money and didnt want to sail around Peloponnese peninsula. Finally after several people trying to succeed in this huge achievement, the canal was constructed in 1893.
