Everyday life in Ancient Agora of Athens

Spend 1.5 hours as an Athenian in Ancient Agora, the central market place of Athens, right in the heart of the ancient and modern city. Feel the pulse of the city’s heart, in the location where most of its administrational, judicial, social, religious, commercial, theatrical and athletic activities took place. Each participant is equally involved via interplay joyful activities, such as dialogues, role-plays and team games. This non-formal education workshop is suitable for anyone over the age of 16. No special knowledge or previous academic or other experience is required.

This experience takes place in the Ancient Agora, a large green open area on the northwest slope of the Acropolis, with direct view of the Acropolis and the Temple of Hephaistos. After our meeting we will walk through the Panathenaic Way which led from the Dipylon Gate of Athens, to the Acropolis, via the Agora. We will pass by the ruins of various shops and workshops and we will stop where the cobbler Simon’s workshop used to be, the place where many of Socrates’ discussions seem to have taken place. After an acquaintance with Socrates personal and public life, we will learn about the public activities that took place in the Agora. Our professional expert will guide the discussion, reassuring everyone’s equal participation.
