Viros is one of the four gorges on Taygetos mountain range. The trail starts at the end of the river, located in Kardamili. Walking upwards to the gorge through trees, shrub, vegetation and impressive geological formation, we discover two monasteries hidden in a forest section.

Monastery of LYKAKI was built in 1570 but the frescoes date from 1783. The church is in parlous state but the frescoes inside are vivid and in almost complete state. Monastery of SOTIRAS was built on the site of a 14th century, near by a fountain with drinking water. Both of particular interest! At various points along the trail there are panoramic views of the Messinian bay and Taygetos mountain. Following the trail to Agia Sofia we walk to an old stone path in order to pass through the old town of Kardamili and have a look at the ruins of Dioskouri's tombs. The trail is circular, most of the walking is in shade conditions, which makes it perfect for a summer hike!
