Hiking in the Bükk Mountains near Eger

With the largest contiguous forested area in Hungary, the Bükk mountains has many things to offer for the visitor. With its romantic valleys and fascinating mountain sides, it is the ultimate destination for anyone who would like to discover the charm of remote Hungarian places.

Our country has a lot to offer for the enthusiasts of hiking. A highly experienced guide will show you around the most beautiful spots at this part of the countryside for making this trip a memorable experience for you. The excursion will take place near the town of Eger, one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country, famous for its fine spas, hotels and historical sites, like the Castle of Eger.

Our meeting point will be at the central bus station of Eger, where we will catch the bus that will take us to the starting point of our hiking activity about 20km away. From there we will walk and climb the highest peaks in the Bükk area to check observation points with the most stunning views in the country. The excursion will be 16km long with 700m elevation. The route is moderately difficult, not recommended for people without previous hiking experience. At the end of the trip we will arrive to the village of Szilvásvárad where participants will have a chance to have a meal at the local restaurants. Afterwards we will catch the bus back to the central bus station of Eger.

We will follow cleared paths and earthroads, so no difficult terrain is expected, no heavy hiking equipment is needed. Recommended: proper hiking boots or shoes and outfits for personal comfort and safety / raincoats / drink and food, as there will be no chance to buy any during the hiking.

Bus tickets are not included in the price of this activity. Participants will need to buy those themselves when getting on the bus at the bus stop. Availability of seats are not guaranteed on the bus, so participants may have to stand during the travel, that takes about 30 minutes.
