The Aurora Lounge at Aurora Basecamp is cozy and low lit, furnished with tables and benches and with plenty of hot chocolate for warming up. The Lounge is fully staffed with experts that will tell you everything you need to improve your chances of seeing the Natural Northern Lights.
Finding the Northern lights can be tricky and it takes more than just driving around in the dark. The Dark Park experience is a 15 minute guided tour, designed to help you identify the natural Northern lights right from the starting phase. Using both still and live images we guide our guests through the different phases of the lights and show the current activity of the Natural lights in our unique Northern Lights Mirror Tubes.
As a Northern Lights Observatory, the real magic happens outside when the conditions are right. Our outdoor area is cozy and low lit with open fire and benches to stay near while admiring the endless space or simply enjoying the outdoors with family and friends.

The Aurora Basecamp is designed for travelers looking to enjoy the Northern Lights in Iceland.
The Aurora Lounge is the heart of our Aurora Basecamp. The 150 square meter geodesic dome is specially designed to withstand the harsh weather of the Icelandic winter and to provide our guests with a safe and comfortable viewing platform during their night-out. We keep it cozy and low lit to preserve your night vision and with easy access to the included hot chocolate or tea to warm you up between your lookout walks in the rugged lava field that surrounds our Basecamp

The Dark Park has the most unique lighting in all of Iceland and maybe even the world! Inside 6 large glass tubes, we’ve replicated the conditions to match the blend of the gases and air pressure where the Northern Lights are formed in the upper atmosphere. The gases are then charged with electrical energy, creating the actual Northern Lights just as they appear in the skies above us. It’s a scientifically accurate and beautiful display that mirrors what’s going on in the night skies.

Outside you have a low lit area with fire pits and benches and plenty of beautiful scenery in the mid of the lava field.
