12 day Motorcycle tour of Western Ghats from Bangalore with escort rider

A 12 day 1500 KM ride from Bangalore on a Royal Enfield, through the incredibly beautiful Western Ghats takes us to one of the hottest diversity spots on Earth and world heritage site. The adventure comprises riding along the Arabian Sea & rainforests of Agumbe, coffee plantation stay, the mesmerizing Jog Falls, stay in a jungle lodge, wildlife safari, amazing sculptures and temple architecture and the heavenly beaches of Goa!

Itinerary

Day 1: Bangalore to Chikmagalur

Stop At: Chikmagalur, Chikmagalur, Chikkamagaluru District, Karnataka
Motorcycle tour from Bangalore to Chikmagalur commences at 7 AM. The ride will take 4.5 hours. In the evening we will explore coffee plantations.

Day 2: Architectural wonders of Belur and Halebid

Stop At: Belur, Belur, Hassan District, Karnataka
We will ride 80KM visit Belur and Halebid, the twin capitals of 12th century Hoysala Empire.
We visit the famed Chennakesava temple of Belur which took over a 100 years to build. The next couple of hours will be spent inside this temple complex. Some of the highlights of this temple are the intricate carvings of animals and dancers on the walls of the temple. Episodes from epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata have been carved out of stone. The main hall has sculptures that are fantastic in terms if the intricacy of the carvings. The bracelets on the arms of one of the dancer statues can be moved up and down!

Stop At: Halebid, Halebid, Hassan District, Karnataka
We head next to Halebid, the old capital of the Hoyasala empire. Located 16 Kms from Belur, there are 3 major highlights of Halebid. We spend a couple of hours in the 2 magnificent temples inside the complex dedicated to Hoysalesvara and Shantalesvara. The other sculpture of interest is a giant statue of Nandi the holy Bull of Lord Shiva which took 86 years to build. Of interest would be to note the veins depicted gracefully on the face

Day 3: Ride through a Rainforest

Pass By: Agumbe, Agumbe, Shimoga District, Karnataka
At 8AM we start our 185 KM ride for 2.5 hours to reach the rainforests of Agumbe, home to the King Cobra!
Agumbe is a rainforest near Thirthahalli and is often called Cherrapunji of the south due to the incessant rainfall. It is home to several endemic species of flora and fauna. Many rare medicinal plants are found at Agumbe. Agumbe is famous for its King Cobras. The Agumbe Rainforest Research Station commissioned the world’s first radio-telemetry project on the King Cobra.
Another 2 hour ride will bring us to the coast at Trasi. with its pristine beaches.

Day 4: Ride along the Arabian Sea

Stop At: Murudeshwar, India
After breakfast we leave Trasi and ride 55KM for just over an hour to reach the picturesque village of Murudeshwar nestled between the western ghats and the Arabian Sea. We will visit the famous Shiva temple surrounded by Sea on 3 sides.

Day 5: Gokarna Beach

Stop At: Gokarna Beach, Gorkana Village Ankola, Gokarna India
We ride 80 KM for 2 hours and reach Gokarna, one of the best beaches in India. The day is dedicated to lazing on the tranquil OM beach.
The beach is shaped as two semi crescents joined together forming the shape of the Hindu symbol of "OM" and hence its name!
Its a mesmerising stretch of white sandy beach adjoining the rocky terrain.

Day 6: Goa!!!

Stop At: Goa, Goa
A 135 KM ride over 3.5 hours will bring us to Goa. We will spend the next 3 days relaxing in the famous beaches of Goa, exploring Portuguese built churches and enjoying the legendary Goan hospitality.

Day 7: Goa

Relax in beaches of Goa
In the evening, we can visit a couple of churches to appreciate the Portuguese architecture

Day 9: Dandeli Forest

Stop At: Dandeli, Dandeli, Uttar Kannada District, Karnataka
We ride 125 KM to Dandeli, a wildlife sanctuary. We will stay in a Jungle Lodge and indulge in a Jeep safari as well as a coracle ride over the River Kali

Day 10: Jog Falls

Stop At: Jog Falls, Shimoga India
We ride 170 KM for 3.5 hours to reach Jog Falls, one of the biggest plunge waterfalls in India. Stay is planned in a homestay in a village near the Falls.

Day 11: River Tern

Stop At: The River Tern Lodge - Junglelodges, Behind Ranganathaswamy Temple, Tarikere, Lakkavalli, Karnataka 577115, India
A 140KM ride over 3 hours will bring us to a lodge perched on a hill besides the Bhadra Reservoir and on the edge of a Tiger Reserve. We will do a Jeep Safari as well as a Boat safari to explore the wildlife

Day 12: Ride back to Bangalore

We checkout from the jungle lodge at 11 AM and ride 285KM in 6 hours to reach Bangalore. End of tour.
