Chadar Trek - The Frozen River Trek - 9 Day Expedition

The journey starts at the mountain town of Leh. The only way to reach Leh is by flight and is surrounded by snow giving it a completely white look. One can catch a glimpse of the snow-capped mountains from the flight as it descends toward Leh which is located at 11,123 ft above sea level.

The trek is over the Zanskar River which lies frozen during the winter. One will be crossing this frozen space in 5 days after acclimatizing for 3 days prior and pass through frozen waterfalls, high mountain walls, old caves and white trail never seen before. Stay in the tents overnight and do not forget to re-fill self with delicious hot meals in between. One can add this trek in their memory book and cherish an almost impossible task for the rest of their life.

Itinerary

Day 1: Reporting day at Leh

Stop At: Ladakh Vacation, First Floor, D Manzil Zangsti, Main Bazaar Rd, behind SBI Bank, Ladakh, Leh, Jammu and Kashmir 194101
• Altitude 11,400 ft.
• Keep woollen cap and gloves handy before arriving at Leh Airport
• Bring a copy of ID proof, Address proof along with original and 8 photographs.
• Foreigner-Original Passport, copy of passport and visa documents and 8 photographs.
• Network is available (only post-paid)
• ATM is available
• Visit of any very high-altitude place or pass is not advisable
• Consumption of alcohol and smoking is strictly prohibited
• Spend the day in the room itself to acclimatize
• Keep your body hydrated
• Overnight in Leh

Day 2: Acclimatization day

Day 3: Medical check-up day

Day 4: Leh to Shingra koma via Chilling & Tilad do and Trek to Gyalpo

• Drive 65 km, 3-4 hrs
• Trek 06 KM, 3-4 hrs
• Today you will learn how to walk on Chadar and use Gum Boots
• Gumboots are mandatory
• Make sure you fill your thermos with warm water before you leave
• Carry two thermos flask of 1 litre each
• Stay in tent
• Drive through Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, Magnetic Hill and the confluence of the Zanskar and Indus

Note :-Walking in gumboots will take a while, so be prepared for some slips and falls! It’s advisable to carry a small backpack which will protect your back at the time of falls.

Day 5: Gyalpo to Tibb Cave

Day 6: Tibb Cave to Nerak

• If we reach on time at Nerak camp, accordingly we can go to visit Nerak village
• Attraction-Frozen waterfall

Day 7: Nerak – Tibb Cave
