Stop At: Amber Fort, Amer, Jaipur 302001 India

Amer Fort was built in the 16th century by one of Akbar’s trusted generals, Maan Singh. It is located 11 kilometers away from the city in a place that used to be called the Amer state. The fort is comprised of a wide palace complex made from pink and pale yellow sandstone and white marble. Each of its four sections has its own courtyard.

You can take a 15-minutes trek up to the fort, or ride a car. Amer Fort is open for visitors from 8am until 6pm.

Stop At: City Palace of Jaipur, Tripolia Bazar Near Jantar Mantar, Jaipur 3023002 India

The City Palace is an amazing complex of buildings, courtyards, and gardens located at the heart of the Old City. The palace exteriors were built by the Hindu ruler Jai Singh II while the interiors have been enlarged and renovated through the years. Some of the palace’s buildings date back to the early 20th century. The architectural styles of the palace are based on a blend of Mughal, Rajput, and European styles.

The Chandra Mahal section of the palace is a museum where you can find unique handmade products, uniforms of the different rulers, and other things that show the City Palace’s royal heritage.

As a whole, the palace is a marvelous place for history and art lovers. It is home to various traditional artworks and replicas of different monuments. It is open from 9:30am, and will take about 1 to one and half hours to explore.

An astronomical observatory, Jantar Mantar was built to measure the position and distance of planets, stars, and other celestial objects. There are a total of five astronomical observatories built in India, the largest one being the Jantar Mantar in Jaipur. It consists of 16 large astronomical instruments that each have their specific purpose. One of these instruments is the Samrat Yantra, the largest sundials in the world.

Jantar Mantar is situated at the center of Jaipur and is only of walking distance from the City Palace.

Getting a guide is recommended when visiting Jantar Mantar to better understand the rich history that it offers and to explain the importance of every structure and give a discussion on astronomy.

Stop At: Hawa Mahal - Palace of Wind, Hawa Mahal Tripolia Bazaar Road Badi Choupad, J.D.A. Market, Pink City, Jaipur 302002 India

Built in 1799, the Hawa Mahal is a five-story palace that can be found in the heart of pink city, Jaipur. The palace has 953 honeycomb shaped windows on its exterior walls that were specially carved to let the breeze in the palace. These windows are all peephole-sized to ensure that the royal ladies would not be seen by the public. It is the perfect palace for the summer and was built by Singh as an extension of the nearby City Palace. The building’s architecture was designed similar to the form of the crown of Krishna, the Hindu god.

There are no stairs leading to the upper floors of the palace. They have ramps instead, which were made for the royal ladies’ palanquins. The best time to visit the palace is in the early morning where you could see the honeycomb faced walls of the palace in the morning sunlight.

Stop At: Jal Mahal, Amer Road, Jaipur 302002 India

Also known as the Water Palace, Jal Mahal is one of the most peaceful and serene sights you will see in the city of Jaipur. This used to be a shooting lodge for the Maharajah. Today, it is a symmetrical, low-rise palace that appears to be floating at the middle of Man Sagar Lake.

Jal Mahal’s light-colored stone walls make a perfect contrast to the lake’s deep blue waters. Within the area, you will find lush green foliage. This beautiful sight makes the palace one of the most photographed monuments in the city. However, exploring the actual palace is not allowed for visitors.

The palace is located 4 km north of the city on the Amer-Jaipur road. Visitors often visit the Jal Mahal together with the Amer Fort since the two monuments are located on the same side of the city.
