Itinerary

Day 1: Manali – Keylong – Jispa (9 Hrs - 160 Kms)

Stop At: Rohtang Pass, Himalayan Ranges India
Start your overland journey early morning and drive to Keylong. This high altitude road beyond the great Himalayan range, connects the densely fertile and green Kullu valley to the stark barren region of Ladakh. The drive starts at Manali slowly winding up mountain roads till Rohtang Pass at 3,950M which connects the Kullu to the Lahaul valley.
This mountain slope is so beautiful that people from every corner of the country visit this place to take part in adventure sports such as skiing, ice-skating, paragliding, etc.
Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Keylong, Manali, Manali Tehsil India
On entering the Lahaul valley we see a distinct change with the Hindu influence being replaced with the Buddhist religion.
A known tourist destination for Manali visitors, Keylong is an eminent stopover for bikers and adventure endeavors. The snow beauty of the mountains bordering this tourist spot and the tranquil Buddhist monasteries of Keylong distinguish it from the other popular attractions of Kullu and Manali while you will find an adrenaline rush in the air of this hilly haven as well.

Day 2: Jispa – Sarchu - Leh (11 Hrs – 330 Kms)

Stop At: Sarchu, Himachal Pradesh 175132, India
After early breakfast leave for Leh, enroute Sarchu drive of 3 hrs, by crossing Deepak Tal & Suraj Tal (known as origin of Bhaga river) and Cross Baralacha Pass (16020 ft) Reach Sarchu.

As a reference point, Sarchu is approximately a halfway point between Manali and Leh.

After Sarchu we will cross a number of passes. Climb up the Gatta Loops, a series of 21 hairpin bends carved into the mountainside and then after descending once again wind your way up the Lachung La pass (4985M above sea level) pass through Sky Angchu Thang (Biggest and Highest Plateau on Earth on Stretch of 42 Kms), Tanglang La Pass 17,585ft, second highest motorable road in the world, after climbing down drive along the banks of Indus river & Indus Valley.

Stop At: Baralach La, Himachal Pradesh 175132, India
The Baralacha La, also known as the Baralacha Pass, is a high mountain pass that is located at the height of 16,040 feet above the sea level and is situated in the Zanskar range. This 8 kilometres long pass connects the Lahaul district in Himachal Pradesh to Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir and is located along the Leh-Manali highway. Just a few kilometres away from this pass, one can also find the Bhaga River, which is a tributary of the Chenab River that originates from the Surya Taal Lake. The Baralacha Pass is thus, surrounded by numerous beautiful sights, which leave the onlooker spellbound and yearning for more.

Stop At: Tanglang La, Leh-Manali Highway Road Ladhak, Leh 194101 India
Taglang La Pass is a facinating place and it brilliantly radiants its beauty through its amazing backdrops and dramatic landscapes. This popular spot in Ladakh is known for being the second highest mountain located in Zanskar range. Shadowing the other mountains, the pass stands at an elevation 5,328 metres.
Duration: 15 minutes

Stop At: Ladakh, Raku Complex, Fort Road, Leh, Jammu and Kashmir 194101
Arrive at Leh by evening.
Leh is the heart of the Leh district and capital of Ladakh.
It's a small town, easy to get most places by foot. The old town is a compact area of mud-brick houses and narrow lanes directly to the east of Main Bazar.

Day 3: Leh Sightseeing

Stop At: Ladakh, Raku Complex, Fort Road, Leh, Jammu and Kashmir 194101
Today you are free to explore the local market at your own. This way you would be acclimatized to the high altitude and also get relaxed after long hectic journey from Srinagar. At evening don’t forget to enjoy the sunset from Shanti Stupa.

Stop At: Shanti Stupa Road 500 steps from Changspa Road, Leh 194101 India
In the evening visit Shanti Stupa, a popular sunset spot with a panoramic city view. Shanti Stupa/Japanese peace pagoda is built by a Japanese religious organization headed by Head monk Nakamura with help from the organization and local people. It is situated at a hill top in Changspa village providing a bird’s eye view of the Leh town. Architecturally it has the Japanese touch with small clean rooms on the side for mediators and the main Japanese shrine at the entrance.

Day 4: Leh - Nubra Valley(5 Hrs – 120 Kms)

Stop At: Khardung La Road, 194101 India
After Breakfast drive to Nubra Valley via Khardung la pass.
Situated at an altitude of 18,379 ft. above the sea level, Khardung La makes one feel on the top of the world. It was once believed to be the highest motorable pass in the world, but facts prove it is among the highest motorable passes in India. This mountain pass in the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir was prepared for motors in 1976 and opened in 1988 for the public.
Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Hunder Sand Dunes, Hunder 194401 India
On the way you get excellent view of great Karakoram Range. Keep driving through Syok River and reach Hundur by Afternoon.
Like an oasis amidst the cold desert, Hunder Sand Dunes are beautiful beyond imagination. Located at an altitude of 4,000 meters, the desert is cut across by a gentle stream and the beautiful countryside. With such stunning landscapes against the backdrop of the snow-clad mountains, the Hunder Sand Dune looks nothing less than a fairy world. Beyond its beauty, the dunes are home to the Bactrian Camels, the major key players during the ancient silk route, and Pashmina Goats. Tourists can also go on a safari on the Bactrian camel that will take them back to the time when the trade was quite prominent within Central Asia and to the remote village of Hunder.

Day 5: Nubra Valley – Pangong(5 Hrs)

Stop At: Pangong Lake, Leh, Jammu and Kashmir 194201
Early morning after Breakfast leave for Pangong Lake (14,500 ft) through Changla Pass 17,350 ft. (3rd Highest Motorable road in the world), spend time at the banks of Pangong Lake. This lake of Pangong is 5.6 kms wide and over 144 kms long and is shared by two countries (25% India and 75% China). Later, have some leisure time and enjoy the colour changing lake and the sunset on the banks of lake.

Day 6: Pangong Lake – Leh (4 HRS – 140 KMS)

Stop At: Ladakh, Raku Complex, Fort Road, Leh, Jammu and Kashmir 194101
Early Morning Enjoy the picturesque view of sunrise on the lake. Today after breakfast, check out from the Camp & drive back to Leh. On the way visit Hemis, Shey and Thiksey monasteries. The evening will be free for leisure & activities.

Stop At: Shey Monastery, Indus River, Leh India
Situated on a hillock 15 Kms upstream from Leh, it was once the residence of the royal family and the summer capital of Ladakh. A 7.5 mts high copper statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, plated with gold is installed here. The palace offers one of the most panoramic views of the surrounding villages, grasslands and river Indus.

Stop At: Thiksay monastry, Leh Manali Hwy, Thiksey, Jammu and Kashmir 194201
Situated 19 Kms from Leh and spectacularly placed atop a mountain in the middle of Thiksey village. Thiksey is one of the largest and architecturally most impressive Gompas in Ladakh and is inspired from Potala palace in Lhasa. There are several temples in this Gompa, containing images, stupas and wall paintings of Buddha, religious texts and the largest statue of Buddha in Ladakh is also installed here.

Day 7: Leh – Kargil

Stop At: Magnetic Hill, Leh-Kargil-Srinagar national highway, Leh 194101 India
A law of gravity defying phenomenon. This stretch of hills is at a short distance from Gurudwara Shri Patthar Sahib. It has been noticed that when a vehicle is parked on neutral gear on this metallic road the vehicle slides up-hill although some believe it’s only an optical illusion.

Stop At: Gurudwara Shri Pathar Sahib, NH 1D, Phey, Jammu and Kashmir 194101
Gurdwara Pathar Sahib, is a beautiful Gurdwara Sahib constructed in the memory of Guru Nanak, about 25 miles away from Leh, on the Leh-Kargil road, 12000 ft above the sea level. The Gurdwara was built in 1517 to commemorate the visit of Guru Nanak Dev to Ladakh , the founder of the Sikh faith.

Stop At: Lamayuru Monastery (Yuru Gompa), Srinagar-Kargil-Leh Road, Lamayuru 194106 India
Lamayuru is home to one of the oldest monasteries in Ladakh, dating back to the 10th century. Local legend has it that the place was once a lake that dried up. The village has around 100 houses scattered around the Lamayuru Monastery.
Tourists who visit Ladakh halt in Lamayuru as a rule to visit Lamayuru monastery in this region.

Day 8: Kargil - Drass - Sonamarg – Srinagar. (8Hrs – 204 Kms)

Stop At: Kargil War Memorial, Goubert Avenue, Pondicherry 605001 India
Kargil War Memorial is a war memorial constructed by Indian Army. The memorial is a memorial of gratitude towards the bravery they paved to the nation. It is dedicated to the soldiers and officers who fought the epic battle during the year 1999 which was popular by then the Kargil War.
The memorial listed all the names of officers and soldiers who martyred in the war. The place sells hats, t-shirts, coffee mugs and much more. The Main element is those of the sandstones which engraves the name of all the personae of bravery.

Stop At: Drass Valley, Dras India
Drass is the second coldest inhabited place on earth. The valley, sitting on the foot of ‘Zoji-La’ pass is often dubbed as ‘Gateway to Ladakh’ and is blessed with a stupendous scenic beauty which can captivate heart and soul of every traveller in just a matter of few seconds. Taking about a bit history of Drass, the place rose to prominence during the infamous Kargil War which took place in the year 1999 between armed troops of India and Pakistan.

Stop At: Sonamarg, Srinagar India
onamarg, a popular hill town situated in the state of Jammu & Kashmir, rests at an altitude of 2740 m above sea level. Surrounded by snow-capped mountains, the city of Sonamarg lies before the Zoji La Pass. The literal meaning of the word Sonamarg is meadow of gold. The place received its name because of the fact that during the spring season, it is enveloped with beautiful flowers that look golden.
