Continue to next site which is the most famous cultural symbol of Ahmedabad, the Siddi Saiyed Mosque. The carved jaalis in the windows of the western wall of the mosque are known worldwide. The carvings look like fine lace filigree work, but are hewn from solid stone. The craftsmanship of this mosque places it on a level nearly unequaled in the world.

Next drive to the oldest Jain temple famous for its carving, the Hutseeinh Jan Temple. The elegant white marble temple was constructed in 1848 A.D. and is dedicated to the 15th Jain Tirthankar (spiritual leader) Shri Dharmanatha. The temple is spread over a sprawling courtyard with a mandapa supported by 12 ornate pillars.

Visit Gandhi Ashram, the house where Mahatma Gandhi had lived for almost 13 years. The ashram has a small museum which has excellent pictorial and written documentation, a library of Gandhian literature and paintings, and an immense archive of letters written by Gandhiji.

Before heading back, visit Sarkehj Roza complex, the acropolis of Ahmedabad. The complex has tomb of Saint Ahmedad Khattu Ganj Bakshm, a mosque, the tombs of Mehmud Shah Begada and his queen, and the palace and pavilions. The buildings are remarkable for the complete absence of arches and the use of pierced stone trellises throughout.
